"The (Red) Auction"

Non-profit-making organizations, famous or successful people or several companies all around the world are often dealing with preparing or running different auctions, which should help old, ill, befallen people, or easily people in need. Similar idea raised also in the heads of Bono and Hirst, two years ago, when they were together on holiday in the south of France. The biggest art world's stars of these times, like Jeff Koons and Damien Hirst, are included in this huge project of auction. Earnings from this project will be assigned to provide AIDS relief in Africa. This auction is located in New York and it is expected to bring up approximately $29 million. The auction is considered to be the biggest Sotheby's art charity auction of our times. Works, including photographs, paintings, sculptures and other, are displayed from Monday and people interested could find them at Manhattan's Gagosian Gallery until February 14. On Valentine's Day it will be sold, to establish United Nation's HIV relief program in Africa. "It's a cream of the international contemporary art crop," said Oliver Barker, specialist for contemporary art at Sotheby's in London, observing such names as Willem de Kooning, Takashi Murakami, Jasper Johns and Richard Prince. A big amount of these works was created especially for Valentine's Day auction and are unit because they are made in shades of red, or this color is used as a thematic element. The collection implies for example Hirst's "Where there's a will there's a way" or Koons's "Ballon rabbit wall relief (Red)". The artists also cooperate with organizations such as the Gap, Hallmark, Apple and Microsoft.
